The single-action revolver has been used for self-defense, putting meat in the pot and for just plain fun shooting. When I was 12 years old my Granddad mail ordered a Remington Black Powder Single Action .44 copy for me from an add in one of the hunting magazines of the day. I practiced drawing and firing that gun for hours every day. I used a holster brought back to Michigan from Mexico for use as a decoration on someones wall. The past ten years or so has seen a new trend in handguns, namely sixguns with very long barrels of l0″ or more as well as specialty single-shot pistols with barrels of 14″ or more. All of the long barreled sixguns and single-shots that I have been acquainted with have been wonderfully accurate and a real pleasure to shoot. However we have strayed somewhat from the original intent of a handgun and that is an easily carried, quick to get into action, defensive, weapon. Read more
