Bilde When Chad Strenge of Colman, SD heard his Jack Russell raising a fuss Tuesday, he figured the terrier had treed a cat, like he often does. ”He trees cats all the time,” Strenge said. Jack had indeed found a feline—of the mountain lion variety. Strenge used a 12-gauge shotgun to fatally shoot the cougar, an act the SD Game, Fish and Parks Department has determined was justified. Colorado teen says cougar knocked her down

A teenage girl driving home from babysitting at about 1 a.m. Sunday morning in Divide, Colo. said she was knocked to the ground from behind by a mountain lion when she stopped to check if her car had a flat tire. “I turned and jumped and I got a paw in my shoulder,” said Kendra Rutter, who received cuts to her shoulder and leg. Michigan DNR verifies UP cougar sighting

Based on a photograph from a Chippewa County hunter’s trail camera, the Michigan DNR has confirmed the presence of a mountain lion in the Western Upper Peninsula, though it stopped short of acknowledging the presence of a breeding population in the region. KittyAuthorities with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources this week denied  the most recent rumors of a mountain lion sighting in the state, this time in Leelanau County. News of the alleged sighting and photo was confirmed by the Michigan Wildlife Conservancy (not a state agency), which confirmed the animal was a cougar. The DNR disagreed, saying the photo showed a domestic cat, nothing more. The Record-Eagle.
