UK gun control: Historic event’s starting pistol confiscated

The Original Great Shirt Race, a historic event in which participants consume a pint of ale at each of Bampton UK’s village pubs, will go off without a bang this year for the first time. The practice of starting the race by shooting a 12-gauge shotgun was stopped by police in 2000. And the starter pistol used since then was confiscated by authorities who alleged it could be converted into a functioning weapon. Oxford Times.
