New Mexico DGF Holding Bear Awareness Meeting March 25
SANDIA PARK, N.M. (AP) — The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish is getting an early start on bear season. The department will have a bear awareness meeting in Sandia Park on March 25. Topics include relocating bears, public obligations under law and how homeowners can help preserve the bear population.
One of the department’s depredation specialists, Brandon Griffith, says he hopes that by educating the public on how to coexist with bears, the problems faced by the state in past years can be eliminated.
Last year, numerous bear run-ins were reported. The department said at the time that it had trapped more bears and killed more bears than any year since 2002.
The department says next week’s meeting will be open to area residents and others interested in learning more about bears.
