Elk intended for research becomes fast food for cougar

DownloadedFile Minutes after Custer (SD) State Park researchers aboard a helicopter darted an elk they intended to use in a research project, the groggy animal fell—within feet of a hungry mountain lion. ”It was a nice sunny day, and I guess that lion was sitting out there sunning itself when an elk staggers up and tips over,” said park resource manager Gary Brundige. “Well, what’s any top-of-the-line predator going to do in a situation like that?” Rapid City Journal.
